By now I would imagine the entire twitterverse (and social media in general) has seen the clip the XAi Grok created of Elon Musk and Donald Trump dancing to the song Staying Alive by the BeeGees.
It is a clever piece with the faces of Donald Trump and Elon being superimposed over two individuals dancing.
Hopefully anyone and everyone who sees this would know that this is a fake, or deepfake, clip of the two dancing. Hopefully.
In an age where it is so easy to create something like this, often times I have to wonder if the fox is in the henhouse – the fox being Elon Musk. Grok has come underfire lately for NOT abiding by its own rules (or guardrails) for producing or altering images. You can easily google Barak Obama snorting cocaine to get a sense of what I am referring to – courtesy of Grok.
But lets get back to the staying alive clip. I have not been able to find the original posting on X. I would like to for a number of reasons and perhaps the reader can help me find it to help me answer some linguring questions.
Did the creator give credit to the BeeGees? Did the creator indicate who the original dancers were? Or which clip that was taken from? Did the creator get permission to use the song from the BeeGees copyright holder?
That’s it. That’s all I want to know. Boomers will recognize the song and what movie was associated with it. But a newer generation will be lost. Guardrails. And giving credit where credit is due.
